Instructor Biography : Richard (Rich) Johnson

Rich is currently a Sergeant with the Clovis, New Mexico Police Department. Rich brings a wealth of knowledge and actual field experience to  BadLands in Tactical Police Operations. Rich started his law enforcement career in 1988. He is a certified Firearms Instructor through the State of New Mexico in the following categories:

  • Revolver

  • Shotgun

  • Scoped Rifle (sniper)

  • Less-than Lethal

  • Semi-Auto Pistol

  • Rifle/Carbine/Subgun

He is also a certified Defensive Tactics Custody Control Instructor for the State of New Mexico in the following categories:

  • Pain Compliance

  • Baton

  • Knife Defense

  • Ground Control

  • Custody Control

  • Hand-to-Hand

  • Handcuffing

  • Oleoresin Capsicum

  • Take Downs

  • Weapon Retention

Rich is an active member of that department's Special Response Team, and during his tenure as a SRT officer, he has been deployed on over 400 field operations, and over 100 High Risk operations. Rich has served his team as a Entry-man, Sniper, Sniper Element Leader, and Team Commander. He has over 1500 hours of continuing education in Special Weapons and Tactics.

He has received numerous awards and commendations during his law enforcement career. Rich is a member of the National Tactical Officers Association, Texas Tactical Officers Association, American Sniper Association, and the Fraternal Order of Police.
